NCC Shirt

Okay guys, I know we've been waiting for ages to get a unit shirt.
But i assure you guys that the cadet cadet officers have been working very hard to find suitable vendors and we finally found it!

They have agreed to let us print full body print. Means we can have big designs on the side of shirts etc like this shirt here.

As you can see the print is big and on the side. It'll be much unique then normal printing of NCC crest on the left chest and some A4 size design on the back. Instead i have came out with rough designs. Here are few examples.

Yup. So this are the several prints i can think of! yea i know its all pictures of SAF soldiers and not NCC. But i don't know, some of u guys may like it? Let us know ur views!

Training

Greetings

There will be training for all SPECIALISTS and PDS training tomorrow 1 Dec 2010, Wednesday.
For all Cadets and Specialists, please report at 0830hours outside NCC storeroom in PT Kit. Please bring Half Uniform (boots & slacks), and Jockey Cap.
A short message for all the PDS trainees:

Thanks to those who came down for PDS training on Monday! I know PDS is really something very new and complex. But i'm sure if other cadets from other school can do it, there is no reason why we can't. We are in this together both the instructors and trainees. And we will pull our way through to make an amazing performance next year!:)

Those who didn't turn up on Monday but wish to take up PDS can still attend tomorrow's training. However, I will NOT be slowing down my pace and will not teach the 8 drills that was taught on Monday. You will have to learn these 8 drills from your fellow cadets!

These are the drills that was taught on Monday:

Vertical Slope arm (4+1)
Diagonal Slope arm (6+1)
Vertical order arm (4+1)
Diagonal order arm (4+1)

Slow Markal (16+1)

Balancing arm (16+1)
Popeye arm (12+1)

There may Not be any PDS training NEXT WEEK. As I am deployed for Camp Pinnacle in NCC HQ.
I will inform all of you of the plans tomorrow.
See you guys!

ICEP 2010:Dessert Trekking India

On the 9th of November 2010,9 cadets,1 cadet officer and two Teacher Officer assembled at the Changi Airport to embark on a 12 days journey to a foreign land far from our safe haven.Along the way we found companionship from unexpected people, unforgettable knowledge which will live on in both our hearts and minds for the rest of our lives in the land of smiles and culture,India.

New Delhi:
After our five hours ride from Singapore to New Delhi,we were brought to the Indian NCC headquarters. There,we were greeted by the Director General,Colonel Chandra. This was a very delightful and unexpected surprise as we were greeted by an officer of such a high distinction despite being only a group of students and teachers. We also met our Kazakhstan counterpart.Despite their imposing figures and cold persona. They were in fact, amiable and lively individuals and this serve as an ice breaking platform,as we associate with them more in the coming days.

Jasalmer:
In the evening of the first day.We went on board a train as we proceeded to Jasalmer,a city located in the state of Rajasthan, where we spent most of our times in India. We met with a very exotic and strange creature,Camels. It might only been an animal, but our days riding them taught us a better appreciation of fellow living creatures. The camels too, possessed emotion and we as the riders, need a better co-operation and understanding to gain their trust, hence allowing us to ride them as the way we desire it to be.

We also met our Indian NCC counterpart, who really carry out their roles as ambassadors of their nation graciously. After seeing the Indian cadets,we gain a greater height of passion and enthusiasm for the NCC,we initially thought that what we have done is enough, but after our interaction with the Indian NCC cadets and seeing them train,we realize how far behind we were and of the need to gear up.

Overall, the ICEP 2010:Dessert Trekking India, was certainly a once in a lifetime experience. Not only do we learn of history and culture from the only nation where 183 tongues were spoken, but in the far land of India we learn of the hazards and experiences that will mould us into better individuals who can make our love ones proud

As year end is approaching, and the holidays are coming, i have planned to start this year's preaparation for Orientation 2011 early. I will start With PDS.

I am going to Post up videos on the Basic 19 drills of PDS on the blog this holidays so that you guys may practice on your own at home. These 19 drills are required for certification to get a Basic PDS badge.

As for Next year's orientation performance, i will require 10 cadets who passed the test to perform next year on stage. Note that the test will be at the end of November so that we can practice for our performance in the whole month of December.

NDP Journey (Part 3):Padang

This is the last part of my NDP journey. The third location is at the actual parade ground and it has such a significant value to us as we stood on the ground where the inaugural NDP took place. It was still like the first two locations. We reported to the NCC headquarter by 8.30 a.m and we would depart for training by 9a.m.Upon arrival at the resting area, the F1 pit.We would be having our lunch which usually varies from KFC to Pizza Hut or even NDP's signature chicken and Potato. We are usually given a few hours, then we would proceed for the first rehearsal of the day at Padang in our NDP shirt .No disrespected intended, however this is the least anticipated part of the day, especially when the weather is humid.many people would fall out of this and usually only some will return for the evening rehearsal.Comically , NCDCC is the only UG that doesn't fall out during the first rehearsal but most would dropped down during the actual thing.

My contingent would also create some of the most memorable habit while we were marching from the F1 pit to the Padang area. Most notably stomping the ground in rhythm while the military band is playing the drum, I called it the NDP stomp. The other is the 'badge press',which involved punching cadets on either their Marksman badge,an FDS or PDS badge. So those of you who got these badges and hoping to go for NDP next year, prepare a shirt inside your uniform

After dinner which usually started at 5 p.m.We would change back to our number 4 and from NE show 1 till the actual event itself, our number 3 .It was pretty much the same, some would even skipped training due to the repetitive pattern, however many would endure this,as we are given three chances.Once we skipped training thrice,we would be put as reserves and I was certainly thankful that I only used my chance twice (both due to family matter).Since no one on the reserve list gets to actually appear on the parade ground on the actual day itself.

We would usually end the day with a march around the Marina Bay.Though they discontinued it till the preview show and the actual NDP itself. We would stop in front of the integrated resort where we will be watching the fireworks. On our way back,we would usually sing and cheered till we reached our destination.Hence even though it was the most tiring its the part of the day we looked forward to the most.

My experience in NDP is something that I will cherish throughout my life as an NCC cadet. There I learn to overcome diversity to achieve success.I learn new stuffs and met amazing people and I hope the cadets will get to join in next year's celebration.

NDP Journey (Part 2):Nee Soon Camp

This to me is the toughest part of my NDP Journey.Hence to all the cadets who aspire to participate in NDP in 2011,I would suggest that you arrange your schedules carefully.

Just like in the Headquarter. We ought to report by 8 a.m.Subsequently become 8.30 a.m though. The training lasted from 9a.m.till 6p.m.It was the busiest time ,especially for the NCC contingent, since we were the leading contingent in this year's parade. We rehearsed for countless of times the sequence for marching into the parade ground. This was especially frustrating for those acting as the left and right marker in the first two rows since we were the leading front and we were the scapegoats for mistakes. It was also difficult to synchronize our turning time with the more experienced army contingent. We finally manage to do so By the time we reached Padang.

I suffered most of my ups and downs here.As in the past I would use my weekends to either rest, exercise or revise. However with my weekends being completely burnt out,I had to jumble exercise and revision with tuitions and councillor meetings on weekdays.I was rather frustrated and it kinda result in a mental breakdown for me.Hence I was really thankful when all of it ended.Though I was sad,as I made friends with cadets of other units, some of whom will be meeting me again in Senior Specialist Course. There are those who are now assuming the post of USM or ASM in their respective units.I also learn new commands and drills that I hope can be taught to the cadets, but let's save that for training and proceed with my final entry

NDP Journey (Part 1):NCC Headquarters

Greetings to all current and former BSS NCC cadets

This will be a three-part entry on the months leading up to the National Day Parade. The five months long journey started a day after my Specialist course .Cadets from all the five districts assembled there(East,West,Central,Air and Sea). All of us were first gathered in MPH(Multi Purpose Hall),before the talk by NCC Sergeant Major,Senior Warrant Officer, Christopher Bryan De Silva. The day stated with an announcement that there will be a test.Naturally the East and West district Cadets(including myself)heaved our chest up,since the fatique from Spec Course still remain, but we ended up complaining instead. It was announced that all the cadets who were below 160 Cm to stand up.Then SM announced"All those who are still sitting now,You have passed the first test".Naturally I ended up falling comically

The second part of the test was marching test we were separated randomly in 9 different squads. Our marching test was conducted by an SAF officer. It was rather difficult at first since all of us were either from the East or West district and most of us were still tired ,luckily we managed to pass.

The rest of the time at the HQ was the same.We need to report in by 8am and we march all the way till 11am.There were also plenty of breaks in between, however this is just the beginning and the easiest part of NDP.

New Layout

It seems that I create new layouts for new batches of Specialist. I think I will change it with every new batch then. Next time maybe I can also consider getting the Specialists to give comments, like how they want it to be like. This time, I also have the help from C/OFFR Muhd Ashraf to do some parts, like he got the pictures to put on the blog, to make it look not so dull.

Anyway, as you can see, this layout is more vibrant with much more colours than the grey background used for the past year or so. So do take some time to complete the POLL on the first section on the left hand side of the blog to indicate which one you like more. Poll closes 16 May 2010, 2359hrs.

Please also include any feedbacks in the Tagboard and if any part of the blog is not working, please also do let us know through the Tagboard.

Please remember to constantly check the blog for any updates, and to Ace and Zac, please keep the blog alive by posting events or training on it.

Good luck for your upcoming exams and may you achieve success, just like Bendemeer NCC, scaling to greater heights!

Best Wishes

Information for all PART C Cadets.

Dear part C cadets,

Congratulations on running the unit for the 1st time.
Last week our CO wrote down 10 things that we should take note of.
Due to some casualties, the notes were lost.
However I can remember some of them and will write them down here.

ALL PART C CADETS PLEASE TAKE NOTE!

1. No unnecessary punishment of cadets.

We are not allowed to 'tekan' cadets too much as well as to punish them
without reason whatsoever.
However, you can do it during uniform inspection.

2. No watches in parades.

Watches are not allowed in parades.
All part C cadets are reminded to get a watch or time keeping device.

3. Try to voice out.

Part C cadets are reminded to use the best of their 'voice' during training.
This is to ensure that our cadets can hear us. :)

4. Lead by example.

Ensure you are during all the correct things.

5. Make sure your attires are neat.

We will conduct our own uniform attire before every training.
Part C cadets are reminded to change earlier every training.

6. Serve with pride and dedication!

We are suppose to serve with pride and dedication.
We have now taken over the unit and we should do a good job
on running it.
Do your very best :)

7. Be punctual.
Be on time for every training.
Nobody likes to wait all the time.

That is all I can remember for now, feel free to text me if anyone of you can remember
what the CO wrote on the board that day.

Once again, congratulations on a job well done part Cs

Cheers

Thank you guys for making my NCC lfe full of colours and filling my life with much entertainment and alot to look forward to every friday. Fridays to me seems like the best days where more and more bonds are being forged each week. Thank you, thank you. And, thank you!

NCC will be the best memory that i will have in my entire life.

However, i will try my best to head down to bendemeer whenever i am free. My friday will end at 5pm and thus, attending trainings will be tough. And, to all my beloved juniors, please update me with recent activities and do ask me for opinions or advices. I would LOVE to provide you with what i know.

Layout of Blog

As you can see, the layout of the blog is different from the previous one. I think I pressed the wrong thing and the whole thing went haywire. Bear with this for the moment while I promise to get the blog up and good-looking again over the weekend. Thank you for your patience and remember to check the blog for constant updates.

CBox is still functioning so please continue to check the tagboard.

On another note, I would like to wish all Part Cs taking their first training tomorrow all the best. It would be an experience like no other. Treasure it, and I hope to see a good show tomorrow. I will be down to observe you guys. To Acting USM especially, it is your first muster parade, do it with pride! Thats all! Good luck once again.

Bendemeer NCC Alumni

ATTENTION ALL EX-SPECIALISTS OF BENDEMEER NCC

Our teacher officer 2LT Jerry Seah together with the current batch of Cadet officers would like to form an Alumni in our unit. These group of people will be known as Honourary Instructors(HI).

The aim of having an Alumni is for ex-bendemeer Specialist who wants to come back to serve the school unit and have a specific jobscope. To avoid any miscommunications between the specialists and Inchiks. The cadet officers will be planning a mentoring scheme for the specialist and we need YOUR HELP in order carry this out.

At any point during a cadet's NCC journey, being a specialist and taking over the unit is the BIGGEST turning point of the cadet's life in NCC. This is when the cadet will take on the responsibility of being a LEADER. At the end of this 4 years, we hope that cadets will be able to rise up to any challenge and to be a balanced student, excel both in NCC and in School.

The duties of a HI is to mentor these specialist and guide them through their journey taking over the unit. Every training that The Specialists conduct may or may not be a successful one. We need you to motivate them and make sure they bring back values and better understand their strengths and weaknesses.

Currently I'm planning to have around 6~8 HIs. We are also planning to have a shirt for the Alumni. Tagline will be "Bendemeer NCC Alumni (Honourary Instructor/Cadet Officer)". We are looking for ex-specialists who are committed to the corps and wants to bring Bendemeer NCC to greater heights. This is not just for the glory of the unit, but we hope this system will benefit the cadets more. Your support will really be appreciated.

If you are interested please give me a call 96738916 or leave me a text message.

We must prove ourselves worthy!

Hi everyone,

I could not believe my eyes when I opened the mail attachment containing the BUC results yesterday. In bold were the words "GOLD". I thought it was some kind of mistake; so Mr Tay and myself actually sat down to total up our scores. In the end, we found that there was nothing wrong with the results. We are now officially a GOLD unit.

Honestly, I was initially embarassed because I felt that we did not deserve it. Every time I go for a HQ activity, I see the Anglican, Holy Innocents, Victoria cadets carrying themselves very well; uniform smart and tidy, no excess movement in the file. They are the perfect example of how cadets from a GOLD unit ought to behave. When I compare them with BSS NCC cadets, we are really light years away from that standard. So how can we ever be a GOLD unit?

But then I thought a bit more, and realised that I have been belittling the efforts that everyone in the unit have been putting in. Though our discipline may not be up to that standard yet.......everyone.....YES, EVERYONE, from teacher officers to cadet officers to the Part Ds and finally cadets have been putting in effort throughout the year to make GOLD a reality for us.

Off hand, let me jog you through some of the important milestones of 2009.

- our first PD drill squad and performance during Orientation
- our first freestyle drill squad which put up an excellent performance at the competition, though we returned empty handed
- the hike during the unit camp which took us from school to top of Bt. Timah hill
- our cadets who form the bulk of the new YSF
- our 2 Part C cadets who participated at NDP
-our Part C shooters who emerged one of the top shooting teams at the annual comp
- our second annual trg camp for part Bs in Nov

Looking at all the things stated above, I have to say that YES! WE DESERVE IT!

I really hope that the GOLD will inspire us to work harder and not rest on our laurels. From now on, we better start behaving and carrying ourselves like a GOLD unit.

I just want to thank every single one of you for this award is not possible without your effort.

My Ironman Journey

Hi everyone,

I will not be around for training this Friday because I will be away in Langkawi to take part in the Ironman triathlon.

The Ironman triathlon is a 3.8k swim, 180k bike, 42.2k run event that I have been fascinated with ever since I was a kid. It is probably the toughest single day sporting event in the world.

Do visit my blog at http://www.iron-law.blogspot.com/ , which talks about my training and other experiences. I hope that this blog will motivate all of you to live a healthy and active life, and to never let go of your dreams.

Take care,

CO

India Republic Day Celebrations 2010

IRD is probably the most prestigious course to go to in my opinion. Not wallaby, not thunder warrior or Crusendo. We had lots of fun during my 13-day stay in India. As most of you would know, India is in fact one of the poorest countries in the world but their culture, food, and historical venues will definitely take you to a whole new level! On the first day, we didn't do much but only went for shopping. We also visited one of the museums which they had in the place that we stayed. India is totally different from Singapore. In the morning, temperatures can drop to almost 8 degrees. And in the afternoon, it goes all the way up to 32 to 35 degrees. So it did took me quite a while to get use to the climate there. Sometimes there would be fogs and visibility can only be up to 30-50 metres!

On the second day in New Delhi, we went to the capital's museum and got a tour around it. It was interesting to see the 17-18th century artefacts that were placed there. Some of them could make you a millionaire! It was that valuable. We also got to see a horse show performed by the Indian Cadets. They were excellent and they had great skill in handling the horses. The horse show lasted about 20-30 minutes.

Oh yeah. Singapore wasn't the only country there. You see, we were part of the YEP (Youth Exchange Programme). So there were other countries as well such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Maldives, Vietnam, Russia and Nepal. We mingled around with them except the russians (because they didn't know how to speak English). I was really looking forward to the fourth day, as we were going to Agra. Obviously, there is a famous national monument and is one of the 7-wonders-of-the-world. The Taj Mahal. It was really beautiful and I was in awe of it. I was really thankful to finally get to see the Taj Mahal. We also went in to see the tomb of Shah Jahan and his wife. We were not allowed to take any photos inside but I secretly took some, without anyone knowing.

After Agra, we went to Jaipur. Jaipur was the place I hated most as I suffered Diahorrea. It was serious and I had to take some pills to ease off. When we came back to New Delhi, we had to rehearse for the March Past in the PM Rally. We did this for two days, and also did some shopping. The next night was the night where we had dinner with the DG Of the Indian NCC, and the food there was truly scrumptious. That was also the night where I shook hands with the Defence Minister and the Commandant of NCC, LTC Adrian Koh. It was truly a great honor. Moreover, he was very kind and spoke to us pleasantly. On one of the days, we also had a cultural performance in front of all the YEP Cadets, Officers, and the Indian NCC cadets. We were dressed in our ethnic costumes (I wore a baju) and we did a performance on Di Tanjong Katong and Di Mana Dia. The best part was when we were doing the performance on Di mana Dia. When it came to the Chan Mali Chan, Hoi Hoi part, all the Indian NCC cadets and even some of the officers were echoing Hoi Hoi after us. I could swear that Commandant was laughing his guts out. And please don't ask me how they knew the Hoi Hoi part. I too am still trying to figure that out.

On Wednesday of the second week in India, we went to the IRD. Security was very tight as there were suspicions of terrorist attacks. And just for your info, 6 prisoners had escaped from prison just before the parade. The parade was great and we got to see over 30-40 contingents marching past us. They also displayed some of their weapons which were truly huge and remarkable! The whole parade lasted for about 2.5 hours.

We, the YEP cadets, also visited the president's house to have tea. It was a great experience to get to see the place that she lived in. Yes, the president of India is a lady. After that we took part in a march past in the PM's Rally, and we got to see the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, upclose. We had to tilt our heads while marching, and he saluted us in response. Later afterwords, we went to the the place that he lived at and had tea there as well. On the last night, it was sad, as some of us had difficulties in leaving our new found friends behind. We exchanged phone numbers, E-Mail addresses and promised to stay in touch.

So that pretty much raps up the whole trip. There's plenty more, but I'm afraid that I just can't remember the exact details. ALL the cadets that were there were really kind and gentle. They really liked us a lot. Especially the Indian cadets. We had lots of chances to talk to them and they were extremely friendly. The next cadet from bendemeer who goes for this trip, is gonna have a great time. I hope to go there once again.

Here are some pics of the trip:
